This is our kitchen. I stand here and cook eggs every single morning, as Shan makes the coffee in the living room. While we were just moving in and still trying to figure out how to arrange our home, this kitchen started as a big stress factor for us. We just weren’t used to such a small cooking space- no storage for flour or spices, cups or plates, not even counter space for the cutting board! We’ve definitely had to adjust our cooking style to fit into this little kitchen.
We haven’t been completely satisfied with it yet, but something was different about it as I made my way in this morning- it could have been how the soft morning light was shining in and reflecting off the walls just right, or how the usually busy street outside our window was unusually silent. Whatever it was, caused me to pause and hum a breath of thanksgiving. Content.
There are so many new ways of doing life and small adjustments that come with every new season, yet it’s always so tempting to hold onto keys from the last one. I find me reminding myself of this often these days- look for the key in this new season, and let go of the one in the past. When life gives you small kitchens, hang up some utensils. There’s always another way 🙂
